You cannot consume cannabis in a vehicle, whether it is moving or parked. This includes Ubers, rideshares, and any other hired transportation.

You cannot consume in public spaces; sidewalks, parks, beaches, parking lots, or anywhere visible from a public road. Hotel and rental property rules vary. Some explicitly prohibit cannabis consumption on their premises. Check before you assume.

But New Jersey has begun approving licensed cannabis consumption lounges, designated spaces attached to dispensaries where adults 21 and older can legally consume on-site, with locations open across the state and more expected.

Driving and Cannabis

Do not drive under the influence of cannabis. New Jersey law prohibits driving while impaired by any substance, including cannabis. Law enforcement can legally conduct sobriety tests. Impairment is assessed behaviorally, not through a specific THC blood level threshold.
